They advice 8 threads for an 8 core but I do not know what I have.

I downloaded Ve Pro 5 manual and read about the threads.

įriedacornet1 wroteThanks for your clear advice. I usually limit a single NOTION 5 score to 20 virtual instruments, so if I need 1,000 virtual instruments, then I have 50 NOTION 5 scores, and I do all the work in ReWire sessions. Initially, this can appear to be complex, but after you develop a system and do it a few times, it is easy to do, and the advantage is that you can have hundreds of virtual instruments. I record the NOTION 5 generated audio as soundbites in a DAW application in a ReWire session where I start with the first NOTION 5 score and then move forward with the additional NOTION 5 scores-one at a time-and this works nicely. When I need to have more virtual instruments than a single NOTION 5 score can handle, I create additional NOTION 5 scores and use them for the additional virtual instruments I need. This behavior has the characteristics of what happens when the processor(s) and cores are overloaded or nearly so. In other words, focus NOTION 5 on generating the raw audio for the virtual instruments, and do the producing and mixing in a DAW application. (3) Effects plug-ins use computer resources, as does the NOTION 5 "Reverb" plug-in, so as a general rule I think it is better to do effects plug-in work in a DAW application rather than directly in NOTION 5, since even though everything is running in 64-bit mode, there are limitations to the amount of work NOTION 5 can do.

I have a 2.8-GHz 8-core Mac Pro (Early 2008), and most of the time I have the Buffer Size set to "512 Samples". (2) On the NOTION 5 side, you can experiment with different values for the Buffer Size, which by default is set to "256 Samples". The VE Pro 5 user guide suggests specifying one thread for a single quad-core Mac when there are performance issues, but for a dual quad-core Mac (8 cores in total), I think the strategy is to reduce the number of threads by one and then see how it works, which you can do as an experiment, unless it's already set to one, of course. īased on information from Other World Computing, I find no reference to a singe quad-core 2.26-GHz Mac Pro, but there is a dual quad-core model, which is relevant to determining the correct value to use for threads in VE Pro 5 when there are performance issues. This information is focused on threads and processor cores. So, it's the information on page 9 that might be helpful. The information on page 17 is focused on the Event Input Plug-in, which you appear to have working. (1) There are configuration parameters for the various VSL products, and some of the relevant information for VE Pro 5 is found on pages 9 and 17.

Nevertheless, I have a VSL user account, so I can download the user guides. I do everything n the Mac, but I do not have any Vienna Symphonic Library (VSL) products.

Sometimes I play on my midi keyboard and some instruments give no sound but when I click on the play button on Notion the sound comes back. Can it be that my system cannot handle it? I've got 64 GB Ram in my quad core mac pro 2,26 Ghz When I look in Vienna instrument Pro the volume is rising when I click on the keyboard of VI Pro but no sound. Friedacornet1 wroteI've added more instruments in VE Pro and the last ones give no sound at all( about 11.
